Just over a quarter (26%) of holidaymakers in Ireland make sure they have travel insurance in place as soon as they book their holiday, a new survey has found. The research* by Opinium was commissioned by specialist provider Multitrip.com which surveyed 1,000 people also shows:

  • 79% don’t check their policy covers all of the activities they plan to take part in
  • 76% don’t check the cancellation cover of the policy would be enough to cover their holiday cost
  • 72% don’t check how much they would have to pay if they needed to make a claim (the excess)
  • 68% don’t check if the policy covers the cost of their luggage and its contents
  • 27% of holidaymakers buy the cheapest policy they find

Jason Whelan MD at Multitrip.com  said: "It’s really important to do your research when buying travel insurance, to make sure that you put in place the right cover for you."

“We urge all holidaymakers to purchase a policy as soon as they book their trip, to ensure their holidays are protected for cancellation cover.

It’s worth remembering the cost of travel insurance doesn’t get any cheaper if you leave it to the last minute, so there’s really no benefit to delaying, in fact you are missing out on essential protection. Travel insurance is too important to be an afterthought, I always urge people to get it sorted as soon as they book, so it’s one less thing on the holiday to-do list”.

Multitrip.com offers 3 levels of cover with optional add-ons so customers can tailor the cover to suit their needs. It’s important for customers to review the policy they choose carefully, paying attention to the various coverage limits, excess, and key add-ons such as Winter Sports and Travel Disruption coverage.
